Day 4 - July 6th, 2018

6.2 miles/9.9 km

6-7 hours

This morning was one of the coldest yet!

After a delayed start, we began the trek to the Lava Tower Camp Site, infamous for its rocky and treacherous surroundings.

Lunch came as a welcome break from the tough hiking. In the afternoon, we clamoured down the steep slopes of the valley adjoining Kili. We hiked for hours, surrounded by thick mist and the unusual vegetation unique to Kilimanjaro National Park.

As we climbed higher in altitude, many members of the group admitted to feeling the altitude and exertion in the form of mild nausea, headaches or all-around exhaustion.

Tonight the mountain seems close enough to touch!
